Green Deal Energy Assessor from Fife – nextGenergy
Shirley Paterson is a Green Deal Energy Assessor. She founded nextGenergy in 2012, inspired by reducing her family’s annual energy bill by nearly £2,500 having invested in a renewable technology and having implemented several energy-saving improvements too.
Shirley Paterson – Green Deal Adviser & Domestic Energy Assessor
Shirley has developed over time the services which nextGenergy offers. Her company offers Green Deal Assessments resulting in Green Deal Advice Reports, which help customers access Scottish government funding to make home energy-saving improvements. Also Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are offered, which help customers access interest-free loan funding in Scotland for having renewables installed, and an EPC is also essential for tax-free incentive income applications.
nextGenergy also supports the installation of energy-saving improvement measures such as boilers, glazing and insulation as well as the installation of heat-generating and electricity-generating technologies. When having an energy-generating technology installed, you are eligible to apply for a tax-free Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive and/or a tax-free Feed-In Tariff – each a nice bonus in the UK for adopting renewable technologies! nextGenergy can support you throughout this process – we work in tandem with highly reputable MCS Accredited installers of renewable technologies.

If you are considering changing your car, why not consider a plug-in vehicle – full electric or a hybrid electric perhaps? It would be worthwhile your chatting with Shirley at nextGenergy early on – there’s even interest-free loan funding in Scotland to support such a transition! It isn’t just Shirley’s home-energy bill reduction which has inspired nextGenergy’s work. Shirley progressed a few years ago to transforming her travel costs, quartering them by opting for a full electric car, and has now compounded the benefits by integrating technologies. Shirley is one of the most down-to-earth experts you will come across – you want the facts? – she’ll share them with you – she has much experience gained from doing this for her own family’s benefit initially, and nextGenergy has helped many households to benefit too! She has now driven more than 50,000 electric miles across Scotland. Her company vehicle is partly fueled by surplus electricity generated by solar panels at nextGenergy’s premises. Shirley has also been a member of the Electric Vehicle Association Scotland for a long while.
Included in her technology plans for the future is an investment in home energy storage – really a large battery for her family home – which would be one other way to use more of the electricity generated by her solar panels. This also increases the returns on investment in solar panels, storing energy which is surplus to immediate requirements, so that it can be used later, eg in the evening when the sun has gone down, therefore less power needs to be purchased from the grid supply. All good for living more sustainability with a reduced reliance on grid-supplied energy, helping the environment, using our earth’s resources, and reducing the domestic energy bill!
“It really is so worthwhile to invest in these energy-saving technologies to do much of this hard work for us quite effortlessly – it is simply so much easier than having to work at changing people’s habits!” says Shirley “although incorporating behavioural changes too will make the results even better!”
Over the last 12 months her household used an outstanding 94% of their solar-generated energy – she is encouraging her family now to be mindful of their energy use, and has set them a challenge – will the next 12 months’ statistic for use of on-site generated electricity be higher than 94%, and their grid use even lower?
Why not get in touch with nextGenergy? Shirley is looking forward to working with you. The services her company offers can certainly do much to help you achieve a significant energy bill reduction too!
